Above: astronomy images from ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½â€™ 20 inch PlaneWave CDK telescope
The ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ College Observatory sits atop ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ Tower near the center of campus. The dome houses a 20 inch PlaneWave CDK f/6.8 reflecting telescope which is fully computer-controlled and synced with the observatory dome. The telescope is equipped with a robust CCD imaging system with a large-format, high resolution (4096 x 4096 pixel) camera that can image a 37 x 37 arcminute section of the sky. Current ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ students interested in learning how to use the observatory for astrophotography are welcome.
In addition, the observatory has a collection of computerized Celestron 8 inch telescopes which are used for astronomy laboratory and many public events on the observing deck adjacent to the observatory. These mobile telescopes provide excellent views of the moon, planets, and a variety of other celestial objects. Specific objects visible vary by season, but some favorites are the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, the Orion Nebula, the Perseus Double Cluster, and the Andromeda Galaxy.
The observatory hosts open house events for the campus and community. Follow us on social media for updates: , Twitter, .
